Cortona3D Viewers for Windows

Cortona3D Viewer and Cortona2D Viewer were originally developed as web browser plug-ins and as components for integration into third-party applications — all for the Windows platform. 

Later they were also used for viewing 3D/2D technical publications created with Cortona3D RapidAuthor. Modern RapidAuthor publications are now viewed with RapidAuthor Viewer and Cortona3D Solo. 

Modern web browsers no longer support plug-ins, but you can still embed Cortona3D Viewer and Cortona2D Viewer into your applications or launch them standalone using Cortona3D Mini Viewer.

Cortona3D Mini Viewer allows you to launch Сortona3D Viewer and Cortona2D Viewer in a standalone mode to view your 3D and 2D data. Supported data formats are provided below.   

How to view your 3D and 2D data

Step 1: Downloading

• Download and install Сortona3D Viewer and/or Cortona2D Viewer.
• Download and unzip Cortona3D Mini Viewer into a permanent folder.

Step 2: Viewing

• You can view your data using any of the following methods: 
• Drag and drop your 3D or 2D file onto the Cortona3D Mini Viewer executable file in Windows Explorer. 
• Launch Cortona3D Mini Viewer and then drag and drop your file into its window.
• Pass the file name to Cortona3D Mini Viewer via the command line.
• Set Cortona3D Mini Viewer as the default application for VRML, CGM, or other supported formats so that these files will be opened in Cortona3D Viewer (for 3D) or Cortona2D Viewer (for 2D) when double-clicked. 

Cortona3D Viewer

Cortona3D Viewer for Windows, previously known as Cortona VRML Client, allows for viewing 3D/VRML data. It can be launched using Cortona3D Mini Viewer or embedded into third-party applications.

• Advanced rendering: mipmapping, phong lighting, reflection mapping, and enhanced anti-aliasing
• Additional nodes and capabilities extending the VRML specification. Check the list of VRML extensions supported by Cortona3D Viewer.

Cortona2D Viewer

A viewer for Windows platform targeted at viewing a wide range of 2D graphics including CGM, BMP, GIF, and JPEG. It can be launched using Cortona3D Mini Viewer or embedded into third-party applications.

• Support for WebCGM v2.1

System requirements

The following system requirements apply to Cortona3D Viewer, Cortona2D Viewer, and Cortona3D Mini Viewer: 

• Operating system: Windows 10, Windows 11
• Web browser: Internet Explorer 11.0 (not required if Cortona3D viewer and Cortona2D Viewer are launched via Cortona3D Mini Viewer)
• Hardware: 1 GHz or faster processor, 1 GB RAM, DirectX 11.1 graphics device, 30 MB available hard disk space

Licensing policy

Cortona3D Viewer and Cortona2D Viewer are free for personal, non-commercial, and academic use. 

The RapidAuthor license allows you to copy and distribute Cortona3D Viewer and Cortona2D Viewer to third parties alongside content generated from RapidAuthor. 

Note: RapidAuthor starting from version 14.0 (released in 2021) is focused on creating publications intended for viewing with Cortona3D Solo and RapidAuthor Viewer. 

In other cases use you need to purchase a license.
