Cortona3D wins 1st Chinese customer through partnership with Top VAR

6 April, 2008
AVIC 611 IS THE FIRST CHINESE MANUFACTURER TO DEPLOY CORTONA3D ‘VISUAL KNOW-HOW’ SOFTWARE TO CREATE BETTER PARTS CATALOGS AND TRAINING FASTER AND MORE COST EFFECTIVELY.

Cortona3D, the proven leader in 3D product communication (‘Visual Know-How’) and documentation software to global equipment manufacturers (OEMs), today announced that AV1C 611, a Chinese consortium of aircraft manufacturers, has purchased both its Cortona3D RapidCatalog and RapidLearning products for use across its facilities. The deal was closed by PGContour, who recently signed a value-added reseller (VAR) agreement with Cortona3D. As a Cortona3D VAR, PGContour are authorized to sell and implement all of the Cortona3D software products and serve as the primary line of support to customers in the region.

“AVIC 611 is proud to be the first Chinese manufacturer to leverage 3D engineering content across its support resources of spare parts and training,” said Mr. Fu Bao Ming, Director of the Maintenance Service Department of Chengdu Aircraft Research Institute of China AVIC. “In addition to the significant savings we will make in terms of production time and cost, our customers will also benefit with a new and interactive experience with the Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) and Computer Based Training Modules. The full color 3D IPC will integrate interactive illustrations - which users can zoom, rotate and explode on-screen – with identifiable part names and numbers. Using an intuitive and easy-to use 3D interface where procedures are simulated and can be practiced makes training more engaging and memorable. Cortona3D software from Cortona3D makes all of this possible,” Mr. Fu Bao Ming, Director of the Maintenance Service Department of Chengdu Aircraft Research Institute of China AVIC concludes.

Cortona3D open standards software feeds any CAD data into powerful authoring tools that integrate ‘Visual Know-How’ into product documentation. RapidCatalog uses 3D explosions to communicate complex assemblies that everyone can understand. Its interactive environment with drill down navigation improves the user experience and puts an end to ordering and purchasing errors, inefficiency and lack of productivity. RapidLearning guides trainers through the production process of digital interactive training applications using animated 3D simulations. It’s SCORM compliant so works with any learning management system. Training is more effective because it is visual and interactive. The lightweight format enables delivery via the web, using a laptop or pocket PC.

“We are delighted to win our first Chinese customer and even happier at the caliber of that organization. Only the best quality hardware and software is used at Chengdu Aircraft Research Institute of China AVIC and we are honored to be their chosen vendor,” said Connell Gallagher, President of Cortona3D. “We are also delighted to be working with PGContour, who have solid industry expertise and a thorough knowledge of the local market,” Gallagher continued. “This team understands how to make its manufacturing customers more competitive. With Cortona3D software, PGContour will be giving many more customers the ability to re-use their product data— typically stored in CAD and PLM systems— for more efficient production of support resources that bring tremendous productivity gains.”
