Update from Connell Gallagher
“Welcome to all subscribers and to new and existing customers. So far it has been a very exciting year for Cortona3D. I am delighted to announce a new partnership with Siemens PLM. This alliance will improve our integration with Teamcenter, including the new Teamcenter Content Management. Feedback from our customers has never been so positive. One leading US Manufacturer has produced their technical publications at one eighth of previous cost using Cortona3D Rapid software. Check out a video of their parts catalog. AVIC 611 is our first Chinese customer and they are proud to lead the industry in leveraging 3D engineering content across its support resources of spare parts and training via Cortona3D Rapid Products. Another new customers MarineSoft shares comment on their plans; we have some developer’s tips and a sneak preview of our new release, scheduled for early November. The market indicates that interactive support materials with integrated simulations/explosions to convey complex procedures/assemblies are becoming a critical success factor for developing winning products.
Foundation Partnership with Siemens
Cortona3D is delighted to announce our alliance with Siemens PLM as a foundation partner. Last February, Cortona3D extended its industry leading support of 3D formats by joining the JT™ Open Program. This new partnership will improve our integration with Teamcenter so content created via Cortona3D Rapid products could be launched directly from Teamcenter and the resulting documentation and graphics automatically stored in Teamcenter Content Management when the authoring session is finished.
US Manufacturer produces Tech Pubs at one eight of cost
Previously, they had to manually import, edit, redraw and page-reference iterations of engineering drawings, parts lists and instructions many times from many sources. The process was laborious and time consuming and the contents of one manual couldn’t be used in another. Now Cortona3D automates the import and linking of engineering data. The software allows all of the resources to be centrally managed so that future updates and revisions are easily and efficiently generated. Also, accuracy and quality of data are greatly improved by leveraging up to the minute content directly from CAD. Finally, given a huge distribution network, it is a massive advantage to this US manufacturer to be able to make deliverables available with real-time updates on line. AVIC 611 is our 1st Chinese customer
AVIC 611 is the first Chinese manufacturer to deploy Cortona3D RapidCatalog and RapidLearning for use across its facilities to create better Parts Catalogs and Training faster and more cost effectively. “In addition to the significant savings we will make in terms of production time and cost, our customers will also benefit with a new and interactive experience of the Electronic Parts Catalog and Computer Based Training Modules. The full color 3D EPC will integrate interactive illustrations - which users can zoom, rotate and explode on-screen – with identifiable part names and numbers. Using an intuitive and easy-to use 3D interface where procedures are simulated and can be practiced makes training more engaging and memorable. Cortona3D software from cortona3D makes all of this possible,” Mr. Fu Bao Ming, Director of the Maintenance Service Department of Chengdu Aircraft Research Institute of China AVIC said.
Customer comment - MarineSoft
MarineSoft GmbH offers advanced solutions and services like maritime simulation and training software using state of the art learning technology. They have chosen Cortona3D RapidLearning to create 3D maintenance training for its customer to replace bulky paper based maintenance manuals.
“We think it is way easier if the maintenance crew can see procedures being played out in a 3D environment rather than having to try and follow a paper based maintenance manual as they did before” said Paul Haubold from MarineSoft. “When a screw needs to be removed from the engine, the mechanic sees that screw turning and being removed in the on-screen model. The fact that training is visual and interactive should make it faster and retention of knowledge easier.”

The application will enable the ship’s maintenance crew to observe step-by-step procedures in 3D training animations and interact with a 3D model of the engine by rotating, zooming and seeing how the parts fit together. Trainees will be prompted to complete simulated maintenance and repairs in a realistic 3D environment before being evaluated with a series of skills tests.
Developer Tip
Restoring multiple part selection in Cortona3D Rapid Products
Choosing the “Undo Selection” command from the “Selection” menu will allow you to reverse the last selection made in either the 3D window or from the Scene Tree. This will allow you to restore the selection of multiple parts that you may have unintentionally deselected.
Sneak preview of New Release of Cortona3D products on Nov 12th
In the upcoming release of Cortona3D Rapid Products, you can expect simplification of a lot of previous processes:
- Publishing of html will be integrated into the authoring tool
- A single installation file will allow you to install all of the components quickly
- The ability to generate 2D CGM images of your 3D view
- Generate your Manuals and Training directly from your S1000D procedural data module.
